The Birth of AEGIR
In the summer of 2021, we reached a pivotal milestone: the first fully functional prototype of our mixed-reality simulator, then codenamed “ShipSimulator,” was brought to life. Set up in a green room, this early version was our initial attempt to bridge the gap between the virtual and the physical. The goal was to move beyond the limitations of purely virtual reality and allow trainees to interact with real, tangible equipment within a simulated environment.
Seeing a trainee put on a headset, walk around a physical space, and use their own hands to operate a real control console while being fully immersed in a virtual world was a profound moment. It was a powerful proof of concept, validating our core belief that true muscle memory could only be developed through physical interaction. This successful prototype wasn’t just a technical achievement; it was the foundation upon which the entire AEGIR platform would be built, proving that a new, more effective way of training was possible.
